Located at the southern end of the Sabi Sands Reserve, Kirkman's has a lovely colonial feel with wide shady verandahs and cool reception rooms, reflecting a bye-gone era of explorers and pioneers. The Lodge is built on a bank overlooking the Sand River with magnificent vistas across the bush towards the Kruger National Park. Kirkman's lacks some of the sophistication of other lodges but still provides a 5 star experience with exceptional game viewing.
There is a lovely large infinity pool with sun loungers and a deck. For any mad dogs and Englishmen, there is also a tennis court, - ball and racquets can be provided. (We suggest the pool and a couple of cold beers instead!) There is a therapy room where you can have a massage or treatment.
Game Viewing
Kirkman's is bordered to the east by the Kruger National Park. With no fences separating the reserve from the park, animals are free to roam, and Kirkman's has one of the best game viewing records in the Sabi Sands Reserve. This really is Big 5 country. Sundowners on 'ridge rocks' is a must, with the red African sun sinking over the horizon, it will be a memory that will live with you forever.
Rooms
The colonial feel is reflected in the décor of the rooms, built as duplex bungalows with views across the bush. Each room has a double or twin bed and en suite bathroom with shower and freestanding Victorian style bath. There is a patio area outside with seating for some quiet moments.
Dining
All meals are included, and are served on the deck or inside the dining area. Depending on the season you will either be served rusks and hot drinks before you leave on your game drive and breakfast on your return, or in winter you will have breakfast before you go out. (Very civilised!)
There is buffet lunch for those that can tear themselves away from relaxing, and to sustain you for the afternoon's game drive!
Dinner is served in the evening, a 3 course meal with a choice of 2 or 3 main courses. On warmer evenings, dinner is served in the outdoor 'Boma', under the stars. Rates include all meals, local drinks and house wines.
