Fancourt has established itself as the top golfing destination in South Africa and deservedly so. With 3 courses, maintained to the highest possible standards, this is a golfer's dream destination. A mix of 2 parkland and 1 links style course, there is plenty of variety. The Montagu is a parkland style course, and holder of the Top South African Golf Course accolade. On the front nine course winds through wooded areas with quite tight fairways. There is also quite a lot of water, either running alongside the fairways or hazards around the greens. The course finishes with 2 spectacular holes, the 17th is a deceptive par 3 over water with some mean bunkers. The final hole brings you back to the clubhouse with a rising par 5 and the green protected by a small lake. You'll need a great 3rd shot to give you a chance of making the green in 4.
The Outeniqua Course, also in the parkland style is more forgiving, with wide, undulating fairways. It has been upgraded in the winter season of 2006 to improve the quality of the greens. There are some large expanses of water on the course which come into play on several holes. The 15th is a downhill par 3 with water waiting to receive any balls that overshoot the green.
For those who really want to pit themselves against the elements, The Links course is surely the ultimate test for any golfer.
Fancourt also offers a comprehensive Golf Academy, the perfect location for honing your golf skills.
The Estate has a policy of providing local employment through its caddie scheme. It is compulsory to have a caddie, at least 2 per four ball. The caddies are rated acording to their competence & knowledge and are costed accordingly. Expect to pay your caddy, R175-200 for a round, and it is customary to tip them R15 when you stop at the halfway house.
