The Waterberg boasts 4 of South Africas top ranked courses, all an easy drive from Johannesburg. The courses are all bushveld courses, meaning that they are located out of the towns on developed bushveld land and are home to many species of small plains animals such as Impala, warthog, and zebra. The animals pay little attention to passing golfers, but contribute to the wonderful ambience of the courses.



One course in particular has caught the headlines of the golfing world, Legends Golf Resort has attained notoriety for it’s ‘Extreme 19th hole’. Reached only by helicopter, golfers can attempt a hole in one on the world’s longest par 3. The tee box is situated on the edge of a cliff 430 metres up. Successful golfers will earn themselves $1 million!



Green fees are significantly lower than courses on the Garden Route and with a year round temperate climate, the region has much to offer. Locally there are good safari reserves offering the opportunity to see Africa’s Big 5 game animals, making the Wattenberg an ideal place to combine golf and safari.
