Xugana Island Lodge, Okavango Delta

Located on the Xugana lagoon, this setting is widely accepted as being the most spectacular permanent water site in the Okavango Delta. This romantic location is perfect for a safari honeymoon or anyone wanting a water based safari experience in Botswana.

Xugana is situated on a private concession which includes the lagoon and the land all around the lodge. An open boma and al fresco dining area overlooks the pristine lagoon, home to hippos and crocs! The bar and lounge are set back under a canopy of Ebony and Mangosteen trees which shade the open sided thatch buildings. The swimming pool and sun deck are located in the gardens in the centre of the island, a perfect place to relax between game viewing activities.

Rooms at Xugana Island Lodge
The rooms are built on stilts around the edge of the lagoon overlooking the water. Lie in bed and enjoy the sunrise, and listen to the hippos grunting far away!
Rooms are all en suite with a fan. Electricity is available 24 hours. Tea and coffee making facilities are in each room and a hair dryer is available from reception.

Dining
Game viewing activities take place early morning and late afternoon with meals served to fit a round the activities.

Breakfast is a buffet with hot options cooked to order, such as omelettes and pancakes. Lunch is served on your return from the morning activities and is a cold buffet with hot savoury options. Dinner is a 3 course silver service affair, served al fresco if the weather permits. There is a choice of main courses.

Game Viewing
Guests are given a choice of activities, including a game walk in the morning. Led by professional Rangers and Trackers, these walks take place on the surrounding islands, home to all types of animals. It is a great way to walk off some of the food, and stretch your legs. You can encounter all types of game.

Afternoons are usually water-based either in a mokoro (traditional canoe) which is expertly poled for you, or in a motorised boat. Guests can also go fishing for Breem (locally known as Talapia) and Catfish. Your evening excursion will stop somewhere for you to enjoy a sundowner drink and watch the African sun melt on the horizon.

Elephant, lion and various antelope are all common in the Delta as well as leopard and Wild dog. You are very unlikely to see rhino or cheetah in this type of terrain. The bird life is spectacular and even those not interested in bird species will be impressed by the wonderful colours, shapes and varieties.

The camp is a sister property to Savute Safari Lodge and Chobe Game Lodge, and is offered as part of a multi-centred Botswana safari itinerary. This gives guests a chance to experience different types of safari experiences in different terrains.

Your stay at Xugana Island Lodge is inclusive of accommodation, all meals, all local brand drinks, scheduled game-viewing activities, park entrance fees and laundry service.

All meals and most drinks are included (except premium wines, liquers & champagne.)

Reviews

In our opinion: Xugana Island Lodge is a 4* property, so not as luxurious as other well-known Okavango Lodges. There are no private plunge pools or butlers here but what you do get is one of the most incredible settings in the Delta and amazing game viewing on foot, motor boat and mokoro. This is a great way to experience the Okavango without paying the mega bucks. We highly recommend it.
