Kirkmans Kamp

Located at the southern end of the Sabi Sand Reserve, Kirkman’s Kamp has a lovely colonial feel with wide shady verandahs and cool reception rooms, reflecting a bye-gone era of explorers and pioneers. The lodge is built on a bank overlooking the Sand River with magnificent vistas across the bush towards the Kruger National Park. Kirkmans Kamp is a staff favourite for safari holidays in South Africa.

Whilst the accommodation lacks some of the sophistication of other top lodges it still provides a 5 star experience with exceptional game viewing. We believe it offers the best value game viewing in the Kruger – this is big cat country and National Geographic film makers head to this area for leopard sightings.

There is a lovely large infinity pool with sun loungers and a deck. For any “mad dogs and Englishmen”, there is also a tennis court, – ball and racquets can be provided. (We suggest the pool and a couple of cold beers instead!) There is a therapy room where you can have a massage or treatment.

Game Viewing
Kirkman’s land is bordered to the east by the Kruger National Park. With no fences separating the reserve from the park, animals are free to roam, and Kirkman’s has one of the best game viewing records in the Sabi Sand Reserve. This really is Big 5 country. Sundowners on ‘ridge rocks’ is a must, with the red African sun sinking over the horizon, it will be a memory that will live with you forever.

Rooms at Kirkmans Kamp
The colonial feel is reflected in the décor of the rooms, built as duplex bungalows with views across the bush. Each room has a double or twin bed and en suite bathroom with shower and freestanding Victorian style bath. There is a patio area outside with seating for quiet moments.

Dining
All meals and drinks are included, and are served on the deck or inside the dining area. Depending on the season you will either be served rusks and hot drinks before you leave on your game drive and breakfast on your return, or in winter you will have breakfast before you go out.

There is buffet lunch for those that can tear themselves away from relaxing, to sustain you for the afternoon’s game drive!

Dinner is served in the evening, a 3 course meal with a choice of 2 or 3 main courses. On warmer evenings, dinner is served in the outdoor ‘Boma’, under the stars. Rates include all meals, local drinks and house wines.

For anyone that develops a nervous twitch when they don’t play golf for a day or two, it is possible to play golf whilst staying at Kirkman’s Kamp. With advance notice we can arrange for you to play 9 holes at Skukuza Golf Club between the game drives. (At additional cost.) That in itself can be a safari experience as the unfenced course is inside the National Park! It is also possible to play at Leopard Creek but this is pretty much a whole day excursion and you will miss at least one game drive although the route to the golf course is through the Kruger park itself.

Love, love, love Kirkmans! We had the most amazing game viewing, seeing the Big 5 on 2 of the 3 days we spent here. Food was amazing and staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We can't wait to go back. We are hooked on the Facebook page for updates! Mr & Mrs A. UK
