Madikwe Safari Lodge

Madikwe Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the richly diverse and malaria-free 76 000-hectare Madikwe Game Reserve – one of South Africa’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. Famed for Operation Phoenix, the world’s largest game translocation exercise, more than 8,000 animals were reintroduced onto the reserve. Madikwe’s diverse geology and broad mix of habitats has allowed the wildlife to flourish – including the Big 5, cheetah and a thriving population of wild dog.

Madikwe Game Reserve is malaria-free making it ideal for families looking for a safari holiday in South Africa. It is only 2 hours drive from Sun City making it a perfect two centre family-friendly break. Madikwe can also be reached by a short flight (40 mins) from Johannesburg Airport.

Set on a gentle slope nestled between two rolling hills, Madikwe River Lodge overlooks game-filled plains with the Dwarsberg Hills in the distance and the Marico River nearby. The lodge is sub divided into 3 sections accommodating smaller groups separately giving a more intimate feel.

Rooms at Madikwe Safari Lodge
Each of the suites features a sitting area, a bedroom with circular fireplace, a spacious dressing area with personal bar, an en suite bathroom with bath, an indoor and outdoor shower and a private plunge pool. The rooms are secluded with stunning views across the plains.

Lelapa Lodge is family focussed and can accommodate 24 guests including children of all ages. Baby sitting services are available and there are family suites.

Kopano and Dithaba Lodge both have just 4 suites each, and will only accept children over 16. However if all rooms at Dithaba are booked out by the same family, children under 16 can be included.

Families are required to have their own game viewing vehicle, which can be an additional cost depending on the number of people in the family group.

Game Viewing at Madikwe Safari Lodge
Professional and skilled rangers deliver an interpretive experience of the bush on morning and afternoon/evening game-drives in 4×4 safari vehicles. Photographic opportunities of the reserve’s fauna, flora and topography are excellent. Positioned at the ecological junction between the bushveld and the Kalahari, Madikwe comprises five distinct habitats, which are home to an array of African wildlife. In addition to Africa’s Big Five, you may see large numbers of elephant, giraffe and impala living alongside oryx, springbok and red hartebeest.

Dining
All meals are included and are served either on the viewing deck, in the boma or in winter in the dining area. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style and dinner is a choice of main courses or a traditional ‘braai’ (South African barbeque).

For our golfing clients, we can offer a Sun City Golf and Madikwe Safari itinerary, which can also include a few nights in Cape Town. Have a look at our South Africa Golf Holidays.
