Classic Kenya

The perfect introduction for first timers to Kenya and return visitors alike, this 12 day itinerary offers a chance to see some of the top destinations in the country, including the lesser visited Samburu National Reserve, famed for the “Samburu Five’ of Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the unique, gerenuk.  From here you will be taken by light aircraft to the Masai Mara for a a quintessentially African safari experience with all of the big five, endless plains and expert Masaai guides. End your holiday with 5 nights on the beach on the Indian Ocean coast.

Day 1: London – Nairobi -Samburu
Arrive into Nairobi where you will be met and transferred to the Wilson domestic airport for your flight north to the wonderful Samburu National Reserve where you will spend 3 nights. Located in the drier and rugged region of Northern Kenya, Samburu National Reserve is considered to be one of Kenya’s most scenic regions and is home to one of the highest concentrations of elephant, the delightful gerenuk antelope and the rare Grevy’s zebra. Spend three nights at Saruni Samburu, a beautiful and luxurious lodge in the private Kalama Conservancy.

Days 2-3: Samburu Reserve
Two full days of game viewing activities, on foot and on game drives and visiting local Samburu tribal villages. You will be guided by expert Samburu warriors through their ancient lands where you can learn all about their traditions, culture and history. This is a fascinating and very special experience.

Day 4-6 : Masai Mara, Kenya
A final mornings game viewing activity before you are taken back to the airstrip for the flight south west from Samburu to the breathtaking and vast plains of the Masai Mara. On arrival you will be met at the airstrip and driven to Mara Plains Camp tucked away amongst the lush vegetation on the banks of the Ntiakitiak River. This camp is one of the smallest in the region, it offers the opportunity to get really close to nature and the local wildlife in the heart of a private conservancy with a very low density in vehicles and with abundant big cats.

Mara Plains Lodge is a small lodge with seven individually styled cottages which offer the most wonderful and intimate experience. This region is abundant in wildlife so expect to see plenty of plains game and big cats during your 4×4 game drives over the next few days. Spend three nights at Mara Plains Camp on a fully inclusive basis with game drives included.

Days 7 – 11 : Diani Beach, Kenya
A final morning’s game drive and breakfast back at camp before you are returned to the airstrip for your flight out of the Masai Mara heading to Kenya’s stunning coastline. You will be met on arrival at Diani airstrip and be driven to Almanara Resort.  Located on Kenya’s secluded south coast, the Almanara Boutique Hotel is the perfect escape after a safari.  Located on Galu Beach, on the central part of three stretches of 7km beaches that make up Diani. The beach is extremely clean and quiet.

There are three deluxe ocean view rooms, each with a Super-King sized bed. A spacious walk-in wardrobe backs onto the en-suite bathroom and shower complete with imported Italian marble & mosaic with his and hers vanity units. Sliding doors open to a private verandah, which offers a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean and infinity pool below.

Day 12 : Departure Day
In the afternoon you will be taken back to the Diani airstrip, from where you catch a flight back to Nairobi Wilson Airport. On arrival you are will be privately transferred to Nairobi International Airport for your onward international flight.

Please note that the luggage allowance on the light aircraft transfers is a strict 20Kg per person in soft sided bags. However all of the properties offer a laundry service.
