Zebula Golf Estate and Spa

Zebula Country Club lies within 1200 hectares of bushveld.
The lush fairways of the golf course contrast with the natural wildlife and habitat of the surrounding African bush. This area north of Johannesburg has not really established itself yet as a destination for overseas visitors wanting a golf holiday in South Africa. That will surely change as people become more aware of the quality of the courses, the game reserves and the fact that this area is malaria-free. It is also easy to self-drive from Johannesburg airport.

The Zebula course is home to a variety of indigenous, non-predator, free-roaming game species. Greenkeepers struggle to keep errant antelope from walking across the greens and early morning golfers will see staff removing protective ropes from around the greens!

Zebula can be played as part of our Waterberg Golf and safari holiday which includes rounds on five different courses.

Built to USGA specifications, featuring kikuyu fairways and bent grass greens. This magnificent golf course was designed by Peter Matkovich, who has designed over twenty courses in Africa, including Arabella, Elements, Leopard Creek, and Princes Grant.

The course is uncomplicated and quite flat, so easy to walk if you want to stretch your legs. There is some testing bunkering around the course and several holes play over or around water, especially those close to the Clubhouse. The par 3, 8th hole is one such test, needing an accurate pitch and some back spin to get close to the pin which can be cut close to the front lip of the water hazard.

The course is not as manicured as some of the higher ranked courses and retains more of a wild feel, with slightly longer fairways grass and impossible rough waiting to swallow up errant tee shots. At weekends it is a popular spot for weekenders from Johannesburg, turning it into a bustling member’s club. The pro shop staff and marshalls are very efficient at handling volumes of golfers but it has a less relaxed feel and will not suit holiday golfers wanting a quiet round. Midweek is much less busy and recommended.

The practice facilities include 5 target greens with bunkers and 5 000 sq. metres of hitting area. Plus there are four separate practice greens to perfect your chipping & bunker play as well as your putting.

Zebula also has a 5* hotel with very nice accommodation in large chalets close to the clubhouse. There is a large bar, deck restaurant and a formal dining restaurant. Other facilities include a spa, swimming pools, tennis courts and the estate offers game drives, both at Zebula and nearby at a national park which is home to the Big 5.
