A South African golf holiday in KwaZulu Natal, combined with a stay and tours at the historic Anglo-Zulu battlefields of Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana.
Blessed with year round warm weather, golden beaches and world class golf courses, its easy to see why Durban and the surrounding areas are one of South Africa’s most popular holiday destination. With the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, historic battlefields and game sanctuaries, there’s much to enhance a South African golf holiday in KwaZulu Natal.
Arrive at the King Shaka International airport in Durban, where you will be met by our representative and assisted with the collection of your hire car. Using your SatNav, drive the short distance to your hotel in the seaside town of Umhlanga Rocks. The Oyster Box Hotel is a stately, much loved hotel just a short walk from the town centre and overlooking the beach. Enjoy 4 nights here as your base to play the golf courses of north Durban, such as Princes Grant, Zimbali and the much lauded, Durban Country Club.
Day 6 – Leave Durban behind and head south along the scenic South Coast Freeway to the Selborne Golf Estate and Spa, where you will stay for 2 nights. Spend the rest of the day relaxing, visit the spa or dip your toes in the Indian Ocean at the Selborne Beach Club.
The next morning play the Selborne championship course, set in indigenous forest and home to numerous small antelope and bird species. The rest of the day at your leisure.
On Day 8 depart north via Pietermaritzberg to the heart of the Natal Midland’s for a round of golf at Boshoek, hailed as one of South Africa’s most picturesque golf courses. After golf you will drive onto the Champagne Sports Resort, where you will spend the next 2 nights. Nestled in the Drakensberg mountains this must surely be one of the most dramatic setting for a golf course anywhere in the world.
A morning round at Champagne Sports Resort followed by an afternoon at leisure. Explore the Drakensbergs; follow a hiking trail, rent a mountain bike, visit the rock art centre or take a helicopter trip.
Day 10 A leisurely breakfast before you drive onto the world renowned Fugitive’s Drift Lodge, where you will stay two nights (full board). In the afternoon you can join the lecture on location at Rorke’s Drift, where your historian will bring the astounding events to life.
The following day you will travel to the Isandlwana Battlefield- the scene of the British Army’s most crushing defeat at the hands of the Zulus.
On your final day, a leisurely morning before your drive north to Johannesburg Airport. The airport is easy to reach with motorway direct to the door. Drop off your hire car before catching your evening flight to London.

ReviewsIn our opinion: Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana are a 'must' for anyone interested in the Anglo-Zulu wars or even just a fan of the film 'Zulu'. The tours are poignant and informative and you can not fail to be moved by the true tales of heroism. Durban offers a pleasant year round climate, making it a perfect winter-sun holiday.
