Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort

Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort is a sophisticated beach hotel on the island of Bazaruto. It is the perfect spot to relax after a safari or golfing holiday in South Africa. It is one of the more lively hotels in the area with numerous activities, and would also suit any one that wanted more than just some quiet time on the beach, and is perfect for families.

Bazaruto Island is one of five principal islands in the Bazaruto Archipelago, which lies just 30 kilometres off the coast of Vilanculos in Mozambique. It is part of the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, one of the largest conservation areas in the Indian Ocean.

The resort offers exclusive island accommodation of the highest international  standards, yet the design of the hotel is understated with an emphasis on making the most of the superb location on the golden shores of Bazaruto Island.

Rooms at Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort
Anantara Bazaruto comprises a total of 50 rooms including two suites, all excellently situated on and around the beach. In the main resort building are the 24 Beach View rooms, all with fantastic sea vistas. The 24 larger thatch and reed chalets are sheltered and secluded with direct access to the beach and the warm, tropical Indian Ocean.

Dining
Anantara Bazaruto offers a choice of bars and varies the dinner venues each night, weather permitting. The resort offers seafood barbecues, themed dinners and local Mozambican-Portuguese cuisine, which is served in the restaurant with its breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.

Diving
The whole Bazaruto Archipelago is an ecological gem that has been granted national park status. It falls into the Eastern African Marine Eco region, which stretches over a 4,600 Km coastline, from South Africa to Somalia.

The islands boast over 2 000 fish species, 100 hard and 27 soft corals and at least four whale and five dolphin species. It is particularly important as a refuge to lovable Dugongs that have largely been hunted to the brink of extinction. Bazaruto has the largest remaining population in East Africa.

Activities
The hotel offers a number of other activities both land and water based. There is a large swimming pool and a water sports centre offering fishing trips, sailing, snorkelling and children’s favourites such as tubes and ski boats. On land there is horse riding, dune walking, volley ball, touch rugby, cricket and picnics on deserted coral islands. There is a daily children’s club.

Reviews

In our opinion: This is a great hotel for couples or families with children. It is quite pricey but offers a safe, family-friendly environment with family rooms. It is not malaria free though.
