One of five lodges set on the Entabeni Private Game Reserve, 5* Hanglip Mountain Lodge is the most exclusive and luxurious. Hanglip is located on the lower escarpment a 15 minute drive from the Legends Golf Resort. It is an ideal location to combine safari and a golf holiday in South Africa.
Entabeni is a beautiful 22,000ha malaria-free game reserve with varied terrain supporting a wide range of general game including the Big Five. The Entabeni Reserve offers an unspoilt African bushveld ranging from rocky outcrops, where leopards watch from hidden crevices, to wide open savannah where the herds of zebra, wildebeest and impala congregate.
The reserve is naturally divided into two distinct areas on an upper and lower escarpment. The upper section is characterised by large open grassland with large numbers of plains animals. The lower part of the reserve is bushveld and is the haunt of the lions, elephants and cheetah. The two parts of the reserve are connected via a very dramatic and exhilarating ravine road, perfect terrain for leopards that can be spotted prowling the upper slopes. The ravine is bisected by a large running stream with natural rock pools and waterfalls. In summer these refreshing pools can be used for swimming with picnic lunch and barbeques provided.
Rooms at Hanglip Mountain Lodge
The ten suites are luxuriously furnished in a sumptuous African ‘Baroque’ style, with large wooden doors leading out to a private patio. Each room has breathtaking views across the wetlands and vast open plains. There’s a sitting area with a romantic fireplace in each room. The large bathroom has a separate bath and shower as well as ‘his ‘n hers’ basins. There is a mini bar, fireplace and tea and coffee making facilities in every guest room.
The main lodge building at Hanglip Mountain Lodge has a dining and sitting area but much activity takes place outside with a garden leading out to an attractive swimming pool area and al fresco dining. For those who enjoy some quiet time with a book, there is a reading room in the loft or the wine connoisseur can visit the cellar for a wine tasting. Lunch is a buffet, served outside when weather permits, whilst dinner is A la Carte with a choice from the daily specials.
Game Viewing at Hanglip Mountain Lodge
Activities at Hanglip Mountain Lodge include twice-daily game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, guided nature walks, horse riding, moonlit boma dinners, picnic lunches and bush sundowners. Additional activities include helicopter trips and hot air ballooning in the early morning light which is a particularly special activity. A visit to the Pedi cultural village can also be arranged.
Next to the game reserve is the Legend Golf Resort, it is a unique opportunity to combine safari with a golf holiday in South Africa. It is possible to stay at the golf resort or stay on the safari reserve, but still play golf in between game viewing activities. The Legend Signature Course is an 18 hole championship course where each hole has been designed by a PGA Tour professional such as KJ Choi, Bernhard Langer and Justin Rose. There is also a 10 hole par 3 Tribute Course, where each hole is a replica of a famous par 3 from golf courses around the world such as Sawgrass, St Andrews and Augusta.

ReviewsIn our opinion: A perfect way to combine safari and golf, especially if there is anyone in the party that does not play golf. It is not the most luxurious 5* safari lodge and the bedrooms are a little dark, but the game viewing is varied and excellent value. It has the added bonus of being a malaria-free reserve.
