Pumba Private Game Reserve

Pumba Private Game Reserve is located at the eastern end of the Garden Route about 80kms past Port Elizabeth. This luxurious 5 star property has superb game viewing opportunities with all of the Big 5 animals as well as cheetah and White lion. It is one of our most popular choices for a safari holiday in South Africa or for anyone wanting to combine a safari stay with a  South African golfing holiday. The property has two lodges, Water Lodge overlooking Lake Kariega and Msenge Lodge which is set back from the river in the bush.

Both of the lodges at Pumba offer superb safari accommodation with private plunge pools, a spa and sumptuous cuisine. The reserve, and this region of the Eastern Cape, has the added bonus of being malaria-free.

Rooms at Pumba Private Game Reserve
Choose from Water Lodge or Msenge, both offer large suites with all possible amenities.

Water Lodge comprises of eight stone walled and thatched waterfront cottages each in a private setting with a deck, outside shower and plunge pool. The ensuite bathrooms offer a bath, separate shower, under floor heating and guest toiletries.

The bedroom and lounge area has a mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, a wood burning fire and air conditioning. Wi-fi connection is available. Room service can be ordered if you didn’t want to dine in the restaurant.

Set in the trees, Msenge Lodge suites are glass sided and surrounded by the bushveld. Enormous four poster beds dominate the rooms with virtually 360 degree views of the surrounding bush. Lie in bed and spot the game! The bathrooms are stunning and include a free standing bath, again with wonderful views – very decadent! The rooms have a small deck and plunge pool for relaxing between game drives.

Facilities
Both lodges have large restaurant and lounge areas. Meals are eaten on the deck when possible, or around the fire in the boma. There is a spa located at Msenge which guests from both lodges can use, Water Lodge has an additional swimming pool which overlooks the lake.

There is also a floating pier down on the lake where drinks are served in the evenings before dinner. Enjoy a sun downer whilst watching the pod of resident hippos.

Game Viewing
Game viewing activities are in 4×4 vehichles. Expect to see all of the Big 5 animals as well as cheetah and the endangered white lions, unique to this reserve in the Eastern Cape.

Pumba also offer a number of specialist activities such as guided wilderness walks, birding safaris and star gazing. There is a bird hide down on the lake where guests can spend time between game drives.

For our clients on South Africa golf holidays, we recommend ending a Garden Route itinerary with two or three nights at Pumba. Popular itineraries start in Cape Town with a couple of rounds at courses such as Royal Cape and Pearl Valley. Continue east along the coast road for a few nights at somewhere like Fancourt or a stop in Knysna before finishing in Port Elizabeth with a safari stay.
