An hour’s drive from central Johannesburg and situated on the southern banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam in South Africa’s North West Province, is the Pecanwood Golf & Country Club. The Jack Nicklaus-designed course enjoys uninterrupted views of the Magaliesberg Mountains which dramatically rise up across the other side of the reservoir.
Pecanwood is another in the Nicklaus stable of residential golf estates in South Africa. The wide fairways, large greens, plenty of water features and an army of bunkers are typical of his course design style, but at the same time it is sympathetic to the natural lie of the land and cleverly accentuates the stunning views.
The course itself is just under 7000m long and offers three tee choices to cater for all levels of golfer. The fairways are a coarse Kikuyu grass with over 5 hectares of bunkers which challenge you to think your way around the course.
The Signature Hole is the par-three 13th hole which measures 187 metres from the back tips, and plays over a corner of the Hartbeespoort to a peninsula green.
The course is located in a north westerly direction from Johannesburg on the road out to Sun City. It can be played as part of a golf holiday at Sun City, either en route to or from the resort or as a day trip from the resort which is about an hour’s drive away.
