Sun City & Johannesburg Golf Courses

Perfect for a long weekend away, leave London after work and be on the golf course by the following lunchtime. Sun City is ideally suited for golf societies or groups. With two challenging golf courses, night life, casino, accommodation and a host of other attractions there is plenty for a short break or as part of a longer two centre holiday.

The complex boasts two of South Africa’s top golf courses, including the Gary Player Country Club Course home to the world famous, Nedbank Challenge. Set in the African bushveld, and surrounded by the Pilanesberg National Park, the manicured fairways and greens contrast sharply against the Acacia trees and roaming wild animals, just a chip shot over the fence! It is not unusual to see antelope, warthog and even elephant in the distance, when playing your round.

The Lost City course, is equally dramatic, with wide open fairways and a water hazard containing crocodiles! The short 13th hole is an over- water hole shaped like the African continent but with a little extra bite! The course is not quite as challenging or manicured, but is every bit as enjoyable.

Our itineraries for a long weekend at Sun City  allow you to play 3 or 4 rounds and get a game drive in too. Leave London on the overnight flight on Thursday evening and be back at your desk for Monday morning. If you have more time to stay, even better! Sun City is a gateway to safari in both the neighbouring Pilanesberg National Park  and Madikwe Game Reserve which is 2 hours away by road.

The golf courses around Johannesburg are often overlooked, as most visitors are simply transiting through the city. However there are some excellent courses within an hour’s drive of the centre, such as Serengeti, The Country Club, Johannesburg and Glendower. All are ranked highly by the SA Golf Digest Magazine and have played host to the SA Open Golf. En route to Sun City there is the Pecanwood Golf Course which was designed by Jack Nicklaus.  It is perfect if you want a final round en route to the airport for an evening flight.

If you would like to discuss playing at any of these courses or any other clubs in the vicinity, we are happy to give you ideas about how to fit them into your itinerary. Speak to our golf holiday team on +44 208 249 5919 (Europe)  or contact us here.
